End Times?
Because of the mounting evil in the world more and more people are getting the sense that things cannot continue the way they are going. Many true Catholic priests are daring to describe our modern world as being in the “end times”. However it is not just the chuch that is in dismay, thousands of people are turning for information to the internet and finding the same sentiments there as well. The End Times! And so turning to prophesy to try and discern what the outcome will be, they happen upon the information that one of the great signs of these end times will be the “Abomination of Desolation?”
Abomination of Desolation
When Christian in particular read the words: Abomination of Desolation their first reaction is to allow the concept to slide through their minds as something so far beyond their comprehension that they are too lazy to investigate. Unfortunately they quickly come across many completely different definitions and descriptions of what this phrase means. With protestantism any one can make up their own teaching on any part of Holy Scripture. Because they frequently do: the Catholic cannot depend on Protestant interpretation of anything.
For the most part though, the end times have been more a preoccupation of Protestants and any inquiry by Catholics was met with the advise to mind their own time of death and don’t worry about the whole end of the world.
Now things are different: So many Catholics are wondering and asking questions.
What does the Word Abomination mean in the Bible?
The Jewish people were the first to coin the idea of “Abomination”, when writing in the Old Testament. When warning against the worshiping of false God’s the word they used was “Abomination”. It was a detestable thing to ignore the One True God and turn aside to give allegiance and honour to pagan gods.
When we use it in secular terms its mean disgust or loathing.
Where do we Find the Abomination of Desolation in the Bible?
The word “Abomination” is found in both the Old Testament and in the New Testament. In the Old Testament the writer uses the word to describe how the Lord feels about different sins committed by mankind. The further term Abomination of Desolation is used in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Leviticus 18:22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them.
Proverbs: 11:20 They that are of a forward heart are abomination to the Lord but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord.
Proverbs 15:8. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: the the words of the pure are pleasant words.
Proverbs 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord:
Proverbs 17:15 . He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.
Proverbs 20:10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord.
Proverbs 28:9. He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
Deuteronomy 22:5. The woman shall not wear that which partaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
Just reading through these excepts helps us understand that God has a loathing for certain atrocities perpetrated against His laws. Now we can better understand the full meaning of the whole phrase: Abomination of Desolation.

Matthew 24:15. When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the hly place. He that readeth let him understand.
Jeremiah 44:22 So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abomination which you have committed therefore your land is become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many in one week: and in the half of the week the victim and the sacrifice shall fall. And there shall be in the temple the abomination of desolation and the desolation shall continue even to the consummation, and to the end.
Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall defile the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the continual sacrifice, and they shall place there the abomination unto desolation.
Mark 13:14 And when you shall see the abonination of desolation, standing where it ought not be he that readeth let him understand then let them that are in Judea, flee unto the mountains.
